8-Bitham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter

LA Times (June 22, 2012) – The 16-bit video game version of Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter (ALVH) was released by YouTube filmmakers Freddie Wong and Brandon Laatsch. 20th Century Fox commissioned the filmmakers to create an 8-bit game version of their film. The film ALVH isn’t leading the weekend box office, however, the game version might stir up a lot of interest.

The mobile game is now available for free oniTunes, meaning you can download and test your skills against the terrifying creatures of the night! You see the 8-Bit Abe on an ax wielding massacre–that is, if you like pixelated horror. The clip of the game reveals how Mary is taken by John Wilkes Booth–well the vampire version of him–and how Lincoln has to fight through waves of the undead to get her back. Gruesome hacking and slashing, with Abe executing his special move that obliterates his attackers. It ends with the final confrontation between Abe and Booth in the Ford Theater.

Hollywood has always linked video games with the release of their “blockbuster” releases. Taking the 8-Bit side of this game release was a great idea. What I truly like about the ALVH game is that it provides old school gamers with nostalgic game play. It also benefits movie studios who are attempting to try and engage their “new generation” of movie goers (ages 12-34) as part of new marketing strategies.

What’s really awesome about this is that it is FreddieW’s 8-bit version of the film, and it highlights key scenes in the film into the game.

Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter is an addicting, bloody game and free to play! Test your vampire slaying skills against the terrifying creatures of the night. You’ll advance through multiple vampire laden levels including Bart’s Dock, the Oval Office and the Plantation Ballroom. But never fear as our nation’s favorite president is history’s greatest hunter of the undead.

Just swing your way to glory, one bloody vampire at a time.
