‘Brave’ Soundtrack Will Feature an Ancient Scottish Sound

Brave, PIXAR 2012

Pixar Planet (May 21, 2012) A third original song plays during the film’s epilogue and is performed by UK singing sensation Birdy with British folk rock band Mumford & Sons. Directed by Mark Andrews and Brenda Chapman, and produced by Katherine Sarafian, “Brave” hits theatres on June 22, 2012. The film’s soundtrack from Walt Disney Records will be available June 19, 2012.

The soundtrack for the the latest fantasy adventure movie via Disney-Pixar studios, Brave, promises to transport the receiver back into ancient Scotland. Oscar nominated composer Patrick Doyle is responsible for the magnificent score of the film, and alongside two original songs performed by Scottish Gaelic musician Julie Fowlis, the soundtracks promises to be most authentic.

Both original songs–Touch the Sky and Into the Open Air–are written/composed by Alex Mandel and directed by Mark Andrews. These two songs are said to capture Merida’s newly found freedom as she explores the world outside of her castle. Producer Katherine Sarafian feels Fowlis is the perfect choice to convey what she feels is Merida’s voice:

“If ever we imagined a singing voice for Merida—the beauty, the clarity, the directness and honesty—Julie embodies that and she’s fantastic!”
