Yesterday, President Obama met with Governor Chris Christie to tour parts of the Jersey Shore that were ravaged by Hurricane Sandy. It was a rare display of both bipartisanship and unbridled bromance. We’re happy to report that not only was a splendid time had by all — it was also captured on film!

New Holmes. New Watson. New York.
Being a huge fan of BBC’s SHERLOCK, I cast a critical eye on CBS’s series newest crime-drama ELEMENTARY. Premiering fall 2012, it’s a modern take on Sir Arthur Conan Doyle‘s chief protagonist Sherlock Holmes and his ever reliable partner Dr. Watson. First mistake I made about prejudging the series is assuming that it will replicate an already brilliant show. I was wrong. Not simply because of the location differences–Sherlock is solving crime in 21st century London, and Elementary features a “new” Holmes and Watson–in New York. The concept for the show or the show’s theme is also interestingly different. Holmes, played by SMEXY actor Jonny Lee Miller (Hackers, Trainspotting), and Watson is played by the beautiful Lucy Liu (Charlies Angels (2000; 2003, Kill Bill). However, both show’s aim to solve their crimes with sophistication and intrigue.
Synopsis: a contemporary take on the legendary detective Sherlock Holmes (Jonny Lee Miller) who investigates crimes in modern-day New York City as a consultant to the NYPD and is assisted by Joan Watson (Lucy Liu), a former surgeon, who is hired by Holmes’ wealthy father to help keep the eccentric detective sober.
Needless to say that Elementary is a really good crime-drama and is one of the best things to happen to CBS since The Big Bang Theory and How I Met Your Mother. If you are not caught up on the series every episode is available to watch online. Elementary is one of the 13 CBS series to be renewed earlier this year including Mike and Molly, NCIS Los Angeles and of course reality series The Amazing Race and Survivor.
Elementary – The First Season makes its debut on DVD August 27, 2013 from CBS Home Entertainment and Paramount Home Media Distribution.

TCM Spotlight: Boris Karloff - Before he gained notoriety as “The Monster” in the Frankenstein movies, Boris Karloff appeared in more than 75 feature films and serials. Three of those early classics are now coming to DVD for the first time ever in Karloff Criminal Kind, a new exclusive collection from Turner Classic Movies (TCM).
The Karloff Criminal Kind collection will also feature an introduction by TCM host Robert Osborne. On-screen digital bonus materials include publicity stills, lobby cards, movie posters and more. The set includes fully restored and re-mastered editions of The Criminal Code (1931), The Guilty Generation (1931) and Behind the Mask (1932).
The Criminal Code (1931) – In this thriller directed by Howard Hawks, Boris Karloff plays a prisoner who is both a ruthless killer and a steadfast friend to other convicts – as long as they maintain the prisoners’ code of silence. Walter Huston stars as the tough-but-fair warden, with Phillips Holmes as the man who falls for the warden’s daughter. The adapted screenplay by Seton I. Miller and Fred Niblo Jr. earned an Oscar® nomination.
The Guilty Generation (1931) – This Prohibition-era twist on Romeo & Juliet casts Karloff as a notorious bootlegger whose son falls in love with the daughter of his mortal enemy, played by Leo Carillo. Robert Young and Constance Cummings play the star-crossed lovers under the direction of Rowland V. Lee.
Behind the Mask (1932) – Karloff is a small-time criminal who helps a federal agent (Jack Holt) bust a narcotics syndicate whose leader’s identity is not even known to his own henchman. Constance Cummings co-stars, with John Francis Dillon directing.
Available only through TCM’s online store, Karloff Criminal Kind will be released as part of the TCM Vault Collection on Monday, May 20.
