Frankenweenie at Fantastic Fest, September 20, 2012
Austin, TX (June 29, 2012) — Fantastic Fest, the largest genre film festival in the United States, will be the host of the world premier of Walt Disney Pictures’ Frankenweenie on opening night, September 20th. Frankenweenie is Tim Burton‘s (The Nightmare Before Christmas, Corpse Bride) exciting return to the realm of stop motion animation that features the story of a boy and the love of his undead pet.
Victor Frankenstein (Charlie Tahan) is an intelligent ten-year-old enthralled with experimentation and his canine friend Sparky. Upon his pet’s unforeseen death, Victor gets the idea to resurrect him using the power of science. However, his newly reborn friend escapes the confines of the family home and frightens their small community of New Holland.
Frankenweenie was filmed in monochrome and rendered in 3D, with an impressive 200+ characters and sets built specifically for use in the feature film. A talented array of actors and actresses have lend their voices to the animation, including the likes of Martin Short, Catherine O’Hara, Martin Landau, and Winona Ryder.

Tim League, the co-founder/creative director of Fantastic Fest, has expressed great joy at the festival being the host of Frankenweenie‘s debut.
“Tim Burton stands as a titan of modern genre cinema. To the world premiere the feature adaptation of his early beloved short is a huge honor for me personally and for the festival in general.”
Fantastic Fest runs from September 20th to the 27th at the Alamo Drafthouse in Austin, Texas. The festival is noteworthy for exhibiting a wide variety of films from multiple genres such as Asian, sci-fi, horror, and action. Also, appearing at the festival are films by directors few have heard of, themed parties and outings with food. Fantastic Fest is sure to contain something that appeals to each individual who decides to attend.
Frankenweenie will appear in American theaters October 5, 2012.

I have to say… hopes are pretty high for this now. In addition to seeing some complete scenes at the Disney panel at Comic-Con, they had a very very very nice display set up on the floor with all the actual figures they used and a couple of the sets.
It looks impressive, and the tone seems just right.
Now that its got me on board (read: Brainwashed) I hope that it doesn’t let me down!
