J.K. Rowling to write new novel for adults

J.K. RowlingJust 5 years after her final Harry Potter series book, J. K. Rowling has signed a deal to publish a new book–not for Potter fans–but for adults. The new deal, inked with Little, Brown Book Group and Little, Brown and Company, will publish her first adult novel.

No specific details in regards to the book’s subject matter or book release date, however, further details regarding the book’s publication and content matter is promised out sometime later this year. In a statement from Rowling:

Although I’ve enjoyed writing it every bit as much, my next book will be very different to the Harry Potter series, which has been published so brilliantly by Bloomsbury and my other publishers around the world. The freedom to explore new territory is a gift that Harry’s success has brought me, and with that new territory it seemed a logical progression to have a new publisher. I am delighted to have a second publishing home in Little, Brown, and a publishing team that will be a great partner in this new phase of my writing life.”

David Sheller of Little, Brown Book Group will be Rowling’s editor and responsible for publication in the United Kingdom; and Michael Pietsch, Executive VP of Little, Brown Book Company will handle publication in the United States. Rowling’s book will be published by Hachette in Australia and New Zealand; and Hachette’s companies and appointed agencies for the English language in other markets.
