Entertainment Weekly EW – The Host (June, 2012) – Just when you think the mysterious romance between two beautiful young people who share supernatural powers would end this coming November with the upcoming Twilight: Breaking Dawn 2–you thought wrong. Twilight’s Stephenie Meyer will ignite tween passions yet again with her latest scifi romance film The Host, arriving in theaters March 29, 2013.
In an interview with EW, Jake Abel is the character Ian, part of the “human resistance” and trying to survive the alien invasion. He escaped with his brother, Jeb Stryder (William Hurt) to the desert and is struggling to survive. He said a bit more about an eventual love triangle between the human and alien:
EW: It’s kind of like a love quadrangle.
Abel: Yeah, a love box [laughing], between my feelings for Wanda, the alien inside the body, and Jared’s feelings for Melanie, the human who he’s known, whom Ian has never known. Ian has only known this alien.
Abel goes on to discuss his character’s involvement with “four” characters, and what it was like working on the set with the films director Andrew Niccol (Gattica, In Time) and best-selling author Stephenie Meyer.
The Host is a riveting story about the survival of love and the human spirit in a time of war. Humans has become hosts to alien invaders. Their minds are taken over and their bodies remain intact. There are remaining humans, but there is a constant struggle to survive. When one of the surviving humans is captured, she refuses to let the host invader take full control of her mind. The invader was warned of the difficulties living in a human; the emotions, senses, and the too-vivid memories. But there was one difficulty Wanderer didn’t expect: the former tenant of her body refusing to relinquish possession of her mind.
