Jennifer Westfeldt directs and stars in the romantic comedy Friends With Kids with Jon Hamm, yes, that Jon Hamm of the fierce TV series Mad Men, and the same Jon Hamm that slammed Kim Kardashian with the ”stupidity is certainly celebrated” remark. Aside from the Kardashian reference, both Westfeldt and Hamm are the featured artists in ArcLight’s latest interview series. In the interview, they discuss the difficulties in independent film production and where the inspiration for the film originated.
In the film, Westfeldt play Julie, a woman from Manhattan whose biological clock is running out. In order to “postpone” the inevitable, she asks her best friend Jason (Adam Scott) to father a child with her–but they still are free to date other people, to avoid the stress that being married, with kids would bring to them. Soon, the excitement of having a child changes, when they begin to date other people.
Friends With Kids premiered at the 2011 Toronto International Film Festival and the film has garnered enough positive reviews that it caught the attention of Lionsgate, who acquired the title.
