CBS‘ LAVERNE AND SHIRLEY: THE SEVENTH SEASON DVD release is a nostalgic trip back to experience one of America’s beloved sitcoms. Penny Marshall and Cindy Williams, first introduced to audiences on another popular sitcom Happy Days as acquaintances of the Fonz the Laverne & Shirley spin-off explored the lives of these two unique women. Set in Milwaukee, the women worked as bottle cappers for the fictional SCHOTZ BREWWEY, then Burbank after losing their jobs. In season seven, Laverne and Shirley take on Hollywood with humor, family, and their aspiring to be famous “best friends.”
Laverne De Fazio (Marshall) and Shirley Feeney (Williams) are best friends seeking to restart their lives on the West Coast during the mid-1960s. With friends and family in tow, mischief happens in Tinsel Town. In this three disc, 22 episode collection, audiences will see the pair attend frat parties, dating success and disasters. In addition to checking out as the pair perform on “live television” with a Latvian acrobatic act while putting up with the schemes and wild ideas of Carmine (Eddie Mekka) and the mischievous duo Lenny (Michael McKean) and Squiggy (David Lander).
While some of the humor, mostly situational based, is over the top at times, the charismatic personalities of the series characters are likable, and their daily lives are interesting enough to follow. This is very much a working class American show and audiences may be able to relate to the attitudes and aspirations of the two main characters, regardless of their gender.
LAVERNE AND SHIRLEY: THE SEVENTH SEASON Special features include:
• Original Promos for All Episodes
• Gag Reel
The gag reel is a little over two minutes and shows some of the dialogue goofs while the cast had to recite their lines. Penny Marshall’s relaxed and infectious personality really shines among her co-workers in the short segment.
