Someone’s at the door.
On October 31st Universal Pictures released a teaser trailer for the upcoming film Despicable Me 2 which made its worldwide debut on iTunes. This is the first time in Universal Pictures history that the studio released a trailer on iTunes simultaneously, with international versions of the trailer made available the very same day. If you can remember Universal and Illumination Entertainment’s blockbuster Despicable Me (2010) made a phenomenal debut, grossing $540+ million, becoming the 10th biggest animated motion picture in U. S. history.
Chris Meledandri and his creative team created the new comedy adventure about a former supervillain Gru (voiced by Steve Carell), who unintentionally adopted three adorable girls just so he can steal a shrinking ray to steal the moon. So Gru, with the help of his minions, obtained the shrink ray from Vector (Jason Segel). The film also starred British comedian Russell Brand as Dr. Nefario, Julie Andrews as Gru’s mother Marlena, Miranda Cosgrove as the older of the three girls, Margo. Now they are all back again confronting a mysterious and new supervillain–of the extraterrestrial kind.
“Despicable Me is one of the most beloved and successful films in our studio’s history,” said Simon Hewlett, Executive Vice President, International Marketing, Universal Pictures. “With this global trailer launch of Despicable Me 2 on iTunes, we are pleased to give moviegoers across the world a first look at this incredibly anticipated motion picture.”
In the spirit of Halloween, the nearly 2-minute trailer shows the Minions singing lullaby’s to the girls just before embarking on their own hilarious escapades. They were spooked by a noise, and went outside to investigate the source of the sound. Was it the cat in the garbage can perhaps? Better yet, aliens. Their mysterious disappearance may be the premise for Despicable Me 2 new adventures.
Prepare yourself for more Minion madness when the movie hits theaters July 2013.
