SUPERNATURAL, We Need To Talk About Kevin, Season 8 ep 1

Together again?

Supernatural, (Season 8 ep 1) Tonight was a much anticipated night for all Supernatural fans as we got to see Dean (Jensen Ackles) return to Earth, but with new “friend” Benny (Ty Olsson). I must admit  Benny’s Southern drawl is enchanting; could he possibly become a new favorite character as the season progresses? Now that, the Winchesters have reunited life has returned to a more complicated and frenzied pace as they must track down Kevin (Osric Chau), a prophet who is the key to sealing the gates of Hell for eternity. Little do they know Crowley (Mark Sheppard) has unfinished business to resolve.

Sam (Jared Padalecki) is clearly not into the hunting game as he once was, and no longer possesses the vengeful drive he acquired after losing his first girlfriend Jessica years ago. We see him rush to meet up with his brother after a year he has been missing, but both of them have changed dramatically–one having to readjust to society after consistently doing battle with every horror he had ever faced on Earth, the other lived in his own personal heaven without a care in the world. This is perhaps their biggest divide yet, and that’s saying a lot for these two. With Benny tossed into the mix, how will Sam react when he discovers a vampire–one of their sworn enemies–has helped Dean escape from Purgatory?

This first episode was a bit slow to start, but you know most of the time, the first episodes purpose to connect last season with the new season. I wonder how the dynamics of the newly formed trio will work. It’s exciting to see how they will proceed in the completion of their new goal looks like fun, and you know, any attempts to seal the “evil door” will attract the attention of old enemies. Since Kevin is a prophet, he is an essential person and need protection. Who better than the glorious angel Castiel (Misha Collins) to lend a hand in Kevin’s time of need?

Looks like the premise for this season may surround closing the gates of Hell forever–is this a hint that this will be the last and final season of Supernatural? If so, I do hope the show ends with tremendous fanfare (Castiel included) featuring a possible reunion with all the characters  lost over the years. That would be sweet!

For now, I will be keeping an eye on each episode. Keeping watch for exciting action, gripping drama with a little angelic assistance.

  1. It was definitely a slow start, but I think I like the change in dynamic between the two brothers. A bit more strained. A bit tougher.

Oh and you’re not wrong about Ty Olsson’s southern drawl. Very seductive!

    • It’s interesting to see this new aspect to their relationship; considering all they’ve been through together, this development is natural. I’m waiting to see how Benny will affect the task at hand.

Glad I wasn’t the only one thinking that! Though I’m mainly waiting for Castiel to show up again.
