TCM Spotlight: Anthony Bourdain

Anthony Bourdain, TCM Guest ProgrammerMaster chef Anthony Bourdain will present a menu of four memorable films when he serves as Turner Classic Movies’ (TCM) Guest Programmer for April. The winner of Bon Appétit magazine’s “Food Writer of the Year” Award and host of the popular Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations will join TCM host Robert Osborne on Tuesday, April 10, to present the following classic films:

  • The Searchers (1956) – Bourdain calls John Ford‘s extraordinary western “a great American film by maybe our greatest director.” Searchers stars John Wayne as a man obsessed with rescuing his niece  Debbie Edwards (Natalie Wood), after she was kidnapped by Comanche warriors. 8pm (ET)
  • Eyes Without a Face (1960) – “beautiful yet disturbing,” as described by Bourdain. Georges Franju’s classic thriller stars Pierre Brasseur as a surgeon who steals young women’s faces in the hopes it will heal his own daughter’s scars. The film’s surgery scenes were rumored to have caused several of its audience members to faint. 10:15pm (ET)
  • Get Carter (1971) – “sharp-edged, relentlessness and  unforgiving,” Bourdain refers to this brutal thriller. “Carter” stars Michael Caine as a small-time gangster searching for the truth of his brother’s death. Midnight (ET)
  • Withnail & I (1987) – A comedy co-executive produced by former Beatles member George Harrison. Starring Richard E. Grant and Paul McGann as unemployed actors who ditch London to embark on an alcohol-laced vacation. 2am (ET)

Anthony Bourdain is an American chef, author, and TV personality. His book Kitchen Confidential: Adventures in the Culinary Underbelly a behind-the-scenes story of the culinary industry.  He is also the host of Travel Channel’s No Reservations.
