Now On DVD: The Garfield Show: Holiday Extravaganza – Review

The Garfield Show, Garfield

‘Tis the season to celebrate with Garfield and his friends!

The lazy orange cat is back for more adventures in The Garfield Show: Holiday Extravaganza (2012). Garfield, Odie and Jon navigate through a series of weird encounters over the course of three holidays: Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. Holiday Extravaganza manages to outdo the previous DVD, Summer Adventures, with hilarious chase scenes, spooky atmosphere, and surprising generosity on Garfield’s part. For seven episodes (including the bonus Heir Apparent), viewers can enjoy the rest of the year in good cheer with Garfield and friends!

Garfield’s jokes and crazy antics are more creative in this release, including  jokes breaking the fourth wall in the first episode The Haunted House where he and Odie befriend a ghost cat haunting the vacation house of Jon’s boss. Jon really needs to finish his comic book and is interrupted by Garfield and Odie–who are terrified of ghosts. Which Witch features one of the orange tabby’s greatest fears–Jon’s nieces, twins Drusilla and Minerva! The two girls get kicks from dressing up Garfield, but he leads them to his unusual next door neighbor’s home; an old woman he believes is a wicked witch.

Jon wants a delicious turkey for Thanksgiving, but his order isn’t what he expected in Turkey Trouble. Nermal and Odie are hits with the neighborhood with their gleeful caroling, but Garfield keeps getting the bucket! Will he successfully get some treats for his effort? Find out in Caroling Capers. Touched by the holiday spirit, Garfield gives plenty of food to homeless animals but feels he could do more to help his new friends in Home for the Holidays parts 1 and 2.

This latest Garfield DVD, because of the holiday themes, has excellent colors and impressive CG animation. The sound clarity is crisp and dialogue is easily understood. Another great feature is that the DVD is capable of being displayed on widescreen televisions with no disruptions to quality.

I am a fan of animation projects and series. It isn’t often that I would recommend any animation outside of my usual film reviews, however, I really enjoyed reviewing this latest brilliantly animated Garfield collection.

Recommended.
