Danai Gurira is Michonne in AMC hit television series The Walking Dead. At the end of the season finale of The Walking Dead, a hooded person wielding a sword—towing two chained walkers saves Andrea (Laurie Holden) from a walker attack. The Hollywood Reporter has just confirmed that Treme actress Danai Gurira will star as MICHONNE in season 3 of The Walking Dead.
In the comic series, Michonne (pronounced ‘Mi – Shawn’) is a female character who is armed with a katana–towing two arm less and jaw-less walkers (her boyfriend and his best friend). In the comic, and serves as a pivotal character in the series, earning the respect of Rick Grimes for saving Carl from a walker.
TWD creator, writer, Robert Kirkman confirmed with THR:
“Fans of the comic book know all about her and I’m sure are very excited to see her. … I like to think about how the audience that just watches the show takes that. I think that is such a bizarre and jarring image. It really speaks volumes as to what you’re going to be seeing in season three.”
Michonne was introduced in The Walking Dead issue no. 19 and is currently a survivor. Her involvement with the Governor and her walker slaying skills will prove for a most interesting character season 3 of TWD. It was earlier reported that David Morrissey will soon join TWD cast as The Governor, the sick, twisted, bad-ass of the comic series.
Her introduction during the finale was an end of the season shocker, and heightened viewer anticipation for the first episode of season 3 due sometime this fall. Danai Gurira’s acting credits include 6-episodes of the hit HBO series Treme, in addition to appearing in a few other hit television series Lie to Me, Law and Order, and Life on Mars.
