truTV - ‘Bigger, bolder, broader‘ is adding new original series to its production and development slate. The focus is on comedic action-packed programming that will appeal to it’s young adult and young male audiences, with several new television show productions in development by Alevy Productions, a Howie Mandel production company; a TV pilot starring basketball legend Shaquille O’Neal–to be developed by Fishbowl Worldwide Media–along with Vin Di Bona, and Tosh.O‘s Mike Gibbons.
“truTV has firmly established itself as a leader in TV’s fastest-growing genre, delivering on the promise of outrageous, fun television with truTV’s unique spin,” said Marc Juris, executive vice president and chief operating officer of truTV. “We’re also programming with an eye towards creating content that works across multiple screens and establishing ourselves as a truly multi-platform brand.”
truTV, re-branded in 2008, has succeeded in ratings growth and position, the network charts its best ever year (2011); and best first quarter in 2012–planting itself among basic cables “top 10″ networks (with men 18-49)–and has the youngest prime-time audience among its competitors. Going forward, the network is focusing on developing additional ‘on-target’ series for it’s growing audiences. A few of the notable new series are as listed:
Killer Karaoke, which will be unlike any series you have seen or heard of before. Popular comedian Steve-O will host an outrageous singing contest that will challenge contestants to ‘break into song’ in the most extreme, hilarious, and sometimes skin-crawling physical challenges.
Hardcore Pawn: Fort Bragg, premiering in July, “Guns Plus,” staffed by military veterans, possess amazing first-hand knowledge of rare and collectible weapons that come through their store on a daily basis.
In development,
Upload with Shaquille O’Neal (working title) - Basketball superstar and TNT NBA analyst Shaquille O’Neal and friends will round up the week’s online video clips, as well as create their own viral videos and comment on and parody current pop culture stories.
Jeff & Curtis Lose Weight (working title) - This new series takes the weight-loss concept and puts a truTV unique spin on it. Comedy duo Jeff Sloniker and Curtis Rainsberry are struggling to maintain their diets and workout regime as they battle the bulge…and each other.
Turbulence (working title) – Contestants fly from one location to another and they answer questions–and every correct answer will bank money for a weekend blowout in Las Vegas. Turbulence comes to truTV from Howie Mandel‘s Alevy Productions.
truTV really is trying to expand its viewership with an exciting new lineup with larger than life hosts with the potential to amass a large audience, whether out of curiosity to see what craziness the hosts and guests will get into; or genuine fans check in to see their favorite idols taking on more curiously entertaining endeavors.
