Of race and family.
In Jean-Paul Civeyrac‘s MY FRIEND VICTORIA (Mon amie Victoria) (2014), Victoria (Guslagie Malanda), a black girl from a modest background, has never forgotten the night she spent at Thomas’ (Pierre Andrau) place in Paris, with his bourgeois family. Years later, she crosses paths with him again. They have an affair; Marie is born. But Victoria waits seven years before revealing the child’s existence to Thomas and his family. Enchanted by the little girl, the family offers to have her come and stay with them on a regular basis. Little by little, Victoria comes to understand the consequences of this generosity.
