LIFETIME® presents DEAR MOM, LOVE CHER. An endearing documentary that explores the personal relationship story between American singer|superstar CHER and her mother Georgia Holt. Holt, born in 1927, has had a life of many ups and downs–failed marriages, abandonment and poverty. However, through persistence and hard work, found some success as an actress and singer. The documentary features exclusive interviews with Holt, daughters CHER and Georganne LaPiere Bartylak, including her grandchildren Chaz Bono and Elija Blue Allman.
Born Jackie Jean Crouch in rural Kensett, Arkansas, Holt spent much of her childhood on the road with her father as travelling musicians, where she began to sing and learned to play the guitar. Holt’s career moved from on the road to making television appearances (I Love Lucy, The Merv Griffin Show) to modeling. The documentary also explores her many experiences on the path to stardom–to the men she married to Cher and Georganne LaPierre. There is an impressive candidness about the entire documentary. Nearly every moment, the details about the family’s history–tragic and triumphant, is shared during the documentary’s 90 minute run time.
Despite her 86 years, Holt’s youthful aura makes for interesting conversations between her two daughters, and the rest of her family. As a tribute to her mother, Cher remastered her album recorded more than thirty years ago, Honky Tonk Woman (released early this year) also features the tracks she recorded with the Elvis Presley‘s band in the 80s.
Overall, an intimate documentary about an amazing woman that is all inspiring.
